I think a lot people misunderstand marriage, because it signifies different things to different people. Depending on your cultural background, religious beliefs, life goals, etc, it can mean an endless number of things. Some of those things may just be an expression of commitment, a promise, mutual economic advantage (some are one-sided, unfortunately), preservation of a dynasty, a thrill or an item in one's bucket list, fellowship, emotional needs, social stability, etc...
People who shit on art as a career are the worst type of person. It's not like they don't spend their lives watching television shows, movies, enjoying comics and other things that were specifically created by artists to entertain you. Oh wait.
