Group Banter Race to a million

I was never a huge comic reader, and I think that's a shitty way to judge the movies tbh. they don't need to be "comic accurate". plenty of comics stray from other versions of characters. Just bc it's different doesn't make it bad. but that's my two cents. that being said the quality has certainly decreased recently

True in some cases, but if you stray from the source material too much, there’s little point in using the character imo. They’ve done great things with some characters that I didn’t care for (Mantis for example). But Namor was so far off it was extremely disappointing

Completely agree. Re both Namor and mantis

Ya I agree. Comic book characters are constantly being reinvented, so changing them up for movies is fine. But straying too far doesn't work. For movies or comics.

why does it have to be close to be good? is it bc it's actually good, or bc it has proximity to something you're familiar with?
Because to me, a “character” means they have certain characteristics that make them who they are. Not just names, appearance and powers, but personality, their approach to things, their way of speaking. If it’s too far off, then it’s not that character anymore

For someone who didn’t know Namor from the comics, sure it doesn’t matter, and if they enjoyed it that’s great. But for me, who does know the character from the comics, it was very frustrating and helped ruin the movie

It was completely off. Ruined the whole movie for me.

it was never the Namor from the comics... bc this isn't the comics. it's the movies. completely different universe where the characters don't need to be what they have been
