Whitlam was too left-wing for the USA, and wanted to pull Australia out of the Vietnam war and stop helping with Intelligence Operations in Chile
Whitlam is the PM that gave us free University, among other things
Fancy not helping the USA in Vietnam.
Also wanted to close Pine Gap, the US intelligence facility in the Australian desert, which is still treated as sovereign US territory to this day (and allows them to drone strike Gaza 24/7)
