What about Perl? I think there are compilers for it. But it's mainly run on interpreters.

There's parsers, like with languages and files. I have never heard of compilers. I think it's a web development related Java stuff.

If I was writing web sites java is really good from the functions I have looked at (APIs) and its been a while. But I am more into C and OSes. System calls.

I never liked at&t assembly syntax. Intel I think is better. I looked at simpler 16 bit assembly using INT and IRQ. Basic was the first language I learned and had an 8 bit calculator like "PC". It was basically a basic interpreter with an expansion pack to 16k of memory.

What would you use R for ? I don't think Ruby is that popular. The guy that wrote it wrote objective C then left it. SQL isn't that for databases? C/C++ would be for writing the databases. I like POSIX systems anyway. UNIX, linux, minix.

Is there a place here on the forum to like play card games or pretty much the same old same old? Doesn't seem to be from what I see.
