BTW - the expression should not be "hopeless romantic" - there is nothing more hopeful than a romantic ! Romanticism was hopeful in the face of a world steeped in self importance and deluded into visions of mankind's conquest of nature through physical science or else sucked into Malthusian dread and fatalism of oppressive theologies. Romantics revealed the hopefulness of the natural world through imagination and thoughts and experiences beyond the ordinary - the sublime over the intellect - a belief in following one's passions. Can there be anything more hopeful?
