There are countless threads about this very issue. There is a problem with people accessing chat as a registered user. It is currently being worked on to provide a permanent solution

There was a hotfix by sysadmin at around 2100 GMT.
Things are expected to be back to normal at this time.

Please post in one place if this particular issue resurfaces.
