With the rise of deepfake porn, a lot of countries are cracking down and here is a current list of the countries and laws set in place

United States - state law prohibits non consensual explicit deepfakes. Take It Down Act introduced September 20,2023 passed into law May 19th 2025

European Union - Proposed AI Act mandating transparency from creators and disseminators. AI Act came into force 1 August 2024 with provisions coming into operation gradually over the following 6 to 36 months.

China - "Deep Synthesis Provisions" requiring data security, transparency, content management, and technical security effective since January 2023

Australia - laws prohibiting harmful or non consensual deepfakes. Criminal Code Amendment (Deepfake Sexual Material) effective since June 2024

South Korea - police will "aggressively" pursue people who make and spread deepfake material in a seven-month campaign starting 28 August 2024. As of right now there are no specific laws in South Korea

United Kingdom - laws prohibiting harmful or non consensual deepfakes. Criminal Justice Bill April 2024 UK government proposed for a new law criminalizing the creation of sexually explicit deepfakes. This builds on the existing offense for sharing 'deepfakes' under the Online Safety Act. Currently under Online Safety Act (OSA), the following are criminal acts:

Cyberflashing
Revenge porn
Sending fake news and other false communications
Sending death threats and other threatening communications
'epilepsy trolling' I.E. sending or displaying flashy images electronically
Encouraging or assisting serious self-harm

I'm sure a lot of the pictures people put up here are for revenge.. it's kind of obvious (or super likely)

While that most likely is true, the DEPFAKES Accountability Act has not passes yet. The only mention of the bill was September 20 2023 when it was introduced

Putting other peoples pictures up is pretty sinister.. but when the same person spams the same pictures over and over you have to think that it must be for revenge.. especially when they write 'don't save' (obviously they want them saved and spread around but I don't think many people have the time for that)

More than 400 House representatives voted in favor of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which doubles as an acronym that stands for: Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks.

The act states that offenders will be subject to prison time, a fine or both, for publishing "intimate visual depictions" of people, both real and computer-generated, of adults or minors, without their consent or with harmful intent.

Public forums, including websites, apps and other online platforms, would have to incorporate a way for subjects of revenge porn to request that it be scrubbed. The platforms would then have 48 hours to remove the content.

I wonder if that's for celebrities too?

Why wouldn't it be?
The only reason I can come up with is that once they've put themselves out there then they could be considered public domain.. I'm not saying that they are or aren't but try coming up with an ai image of me? I'd think it would be tough to find one.

You are starting to get into the grey area of copyright law with that one. If it was 100% ai generated with no human authorship then that is public domain. As soon as there is some form of human authorship then that piece falls under public domain. The problem with that is ai is advnacing faster than any government can create laws
