Because many Communist countries use the word Socialist in there name including China and the old USSR you assume it is the same as communism. But it is not. Karl Marx viewed it as the in between state of a country before true communism was achieved. But just because a country uses it in it's name doesn't make it a Socialist country. Some communist counties use th term Democratic in their namew but obviously aren't democratic.
China is run by a dictatorship. That's what makes it a Communist country. Communists always has one party rule. In Socialism that is not necessarily the case. They are similar in that in theory the working class would own everything and society would function for the Communal good. But socialist principals can be applied to Democracies. Many Nordic counties are Socialist Democracies. And parts of Socialist theory are used in the UK and most of the Commonwealth. But those countries are not dictatorships.
Oh and we actually use Socialist principle here in America as well. Our welfare system, free public education and social security system are Socialist ideas. Just like neither China or Cuba practice Communism the way Marx envisioned the U.S does not function in purely Capitalist ways either. No political or economic theory is perfect. But just because someone tells you it's bad doesn't mean it is. Countries that practice a form of Democratic Socialism have better quality of life standards than the U.S are better educated on average and have lower crime rates. But according to the Republican party you bow down to, those things are all bad . They seem like good things to me. But I have never advocated a Socialist agenda on this site. Nor am I a Democratic Socialist. But if I was I wouldn't be wrong because a political party that needs to give tax breaks to the super wealthy in order to get donations says I am.

I've been to Africa. I can confirm it is mostly a shit hole. But then so are many urban areas in the West. Humans with little regard for their own community are what shit holes make, regardless of creed, colour or what invisible person you believe in.
