We are all of the age where we grew up with things that aren't around anymore. I figured I'd start a thread to stir up memories of the good old days. Let me start by pouring some out for my homies: original Nintendo system and power pad... I will never have to blow on a game to get it started.
Tab Clear Coke, spokey dokeys on your bike, jumpers for goal posts, 1/2 pence coins, penny sweets, white dog pooh, 3 TV channels, the fear of nuclear holocaust, Jimmy Savile only famous for being on TV, the A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Airwolf, community spirit, football hooliganism, life before the internet and mobile phones, Bonfire night being a big event, Space Hoppers, BMX, cars you could easily fix yourself, milk and fizzy drinks delivered on the door step, flocks of birds migrating, white Christmas every year, discipline in schools, home & society, the days before being offended, snowflakes, political correctness, safe spaces and trigger warnings. Kids playing in the street, climbing trees, conker fights, playing football until it got dark, music that mattered, films without spoilers, Woolworths pic 'n mix, finding porn mags in the bushes, McDonalds being a treat not a staple food, holidays on the coast, war stories from your grandparents, water fights in the summer, fishing, camping, making dens... I could go on
Paddling in school (big ass wooden paddle), rotary dial telephone (complete with a party line with 4 families on same line), parachute pants, like Steg said penny candy! Visting neighbors, going to Grandma's for Sunday dinner every Sunday, croquet, comic books, getting baptized in the river, big hair, Levi's bluejean jackets, boom box, roller skating with my white skates & pink pom poms, going parking on the backroads, whiffle ball, kool aid, okay enough...
Dial-up modem - if someone was on the phone you were fucked! AOL instant messenger Starter jackets and sharktooth hats Walkman, cassettes
- playing video games until like 5am - fucking around at school (Practical experiments in Science with a Bunsen Burner brings back great memories) - Space Hoppers - watching Cartoon Network all day when it was new, so many great shows - Sitting next to my sisters CD player as I record tracks onto audio cassettes for my walkman
Bubble gum and cherry gloss lip gloss.. thrashing the atarai until my thumb cramped... Baby oil to bake under the sun. Soda stream creations.. Going to the video store , knowing where every one was chilling by the pile of wheeled transportation . Taping favourite songs off the radio, waiting all week to see a movie ..
Kids on Big Wheels bikes. Getting your mate to tell someone you liked them. The Friday night's at the local YMCA disco . Games of kick the can or knock and run. Bike rides to the coast .
For some reason this thread brought me back to when N.W.A came out with Fuck tha Police lol. One of my first CDs I bought. Also back when MTV actually played videos and we'd wait for the new ones for what seemed like forever. And our government actually functioned well lol. Well and no racist , facist as El Comandante was great too lol
For me and my cousins it was who would forget the electric fence was on when we went to the field next door to shoot. Damn cows were never in the mood to remind us!
Trying to fix a cassette with tape when it broke. When making a mix tape for a girl took a lot of time and effort. And everything we wore everything was baggy , shorts pants shirts lol. Hell I actually had hair! And it was in long ass cornrows lol
