There should be an option for a voice only chat. I know many people including the women would welcome this as it's more comfortable than video calling a complete stranger

There is. Simply don't enable video.
There's also #VoiceClipChat and #DirtyVoiceClipChat.

I've just tried it again and the video automatically comes on, sorry but can't find the audio only option. Even after the call has started you can't turn cam off or even change to the rear camera
