Where does everyone get their news ?

News are important for every country. We have our own opinions and ideas here from time to time about events that happened in different parts of the world. Might be politics, might be fashion, music, movies, different tendencies from so many other fields . Where does everyone get their news and how do you decide what news sources to trust ?
 
I do not trust any news source 100 percent. I watch CNN a lot and think they do the best at vetting sources but occasionally do make mistakes. Vicenews I like but know it isn't a balanced viewpoint. They lean liberal to the extreme sometimes so it has to be viewed that away. But I agree with most of their opinion pieces. I watch Fox also mostly to see what people who see that as a reliable source are hearing since they tend to believe it all. I trust nothing that Fox puts out. They are more extreme to the right than Vice is to the left. And do not consider them a actual news network. BBC America is good I think sometimes.

Usually I keep up with Finance, Economy and Business related news when I'm working and I heavily rely on the websites of ACCA, CMA, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, CPA, etc. situated around various countries as well as being a member I'm subscribed to their monthly/bi-monthly journals. The articles are within the purview of policies that are being amended or affected by the implemented legislation or any other factors. I have to trust this source because the association takes themselves very seriously and are oft times behind the composition of any strategy to be undertaken.
Besides that I browse Investopedia which not only has news about deviations in market but also carries educational articles. Also SeekingAlpha is known for some of the news which is not easily available or is not as highlighted as, say, Kanye and Rudeman's growing closeness. I trust these two sites because they're free sources and have some high quality content.
Also FT or WS Journal if I've got some time to browse and to corroborate with the news that I have.

Politics is not my forte but I do browse Huffington sometimes to know what's really going on. Besides that some overzealous friends who inhale and bathe in politics. But they're heavily opinionated.


I depend on my friends to keep me updated about fashion, movie and music. I never really trust their taste but they're some of the best players in these fields and I have to accept whatever they spew out.

Have you noticed any difference between your media and the European one ? Do they follow logically from what has been cited for the same story ?

Friends are always important to keep you updated and you don't have to have the same opinion, of course . You said you have to trust this source because the association takes themselves very seriously . But do you really trust it ?

Yes, I do. Being a member I have seen the inner workings as well as have been a part of formulation and implementation team. The sheer amount of research that goes behind is astounding. So yes, I would blindly trust any news put forth by these associations.

Yes there is a difference. European news will follow the same facts as American news I think but analyze it differently. More focused on the global effects of what happens here. For instance if our stock market tanks BBC will have more to say on how that effects other markets.

I think the US media tends to prioritize individual liberty while European media tend to value the role of the state to ensure no one in society is in need. There are a few more differences, but talking only about the way of presenting the same story, I feel a more offensive speech lately in the US media .

The U.S media is becoming as entrenched in certain beliefs as the people have become. You are right . We hold individual liberty sacred. Sometimes to a fault. Then there is the whole pull yourself up by the bootstraps thing. Emphasis is put on the individual to improve their status. That said we do have social programs. Not as extensive as in Europe but we do have a lot of them. But access can vary by state so what people can get where varies widely .
 
Not that I am a big news follower, but the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission). It's not run for profit and I think that any news source that is profit-oriented tends to report both the types of news that will generate sales as well as being reported in a manner that will enhance those sales. They don't have the resources of the 'major-players' in the reporting industry (I used 'industry' deliberately as it is) and they do tend to usually just report what happened in an unbiased manner rather than putting a sales-promoting 'spin' on how they report it.

I tried to take a look very fast, it says it's independent of Government and politics. If so, the surviving funds are coming from where ? Only sales and advertising ?

Tax-payers. The ABC doesn't have commercials or advertising. I don't believe it's unbiased, just less biased. I only really watch news for the last 'human-nature' story that comes after the weather forecast as well as the forecast itself. Those stories about kittens being rescued from drains, and old ladies making cup-cakes for war veterans, now that stuff is news-worthy. The rest of it is just politics, drama and depressing.

I only watch the news for the weather forecasts. I don't trust any of it, and I blame the media for a good 87% of everything bad that happens in the world. If I know anything about what's happening in the world it's because there was an article online, and I read it. Usually I remain oblivious because I don't really care unless it affects my family's well being.

It's true, some watchdogs transformed into lapdogs. Media still gives some hints and sometimes helps from my point of view. Hows the weather tomorrow ? ;)
