They all take a turn throwing rocks, but there’s usually one (the skip or captain) that doesn’t sweep because they’re in the back of the house (the scoring zone) tracking the shots. When the skip throws, another player takes their place tracking

Are the skips the ones that stick the broom handles about to gauge the distance and all that?

Yes, except ofc when they’re throwing. But they’re still the one calling the shot and then the other player marks it the way they want
They all have input though, it’s fun to watch them stand around and debate what shot to try, even if you don’t understand their language

Have fun. I've watched plenty of curling in the past but I take 4 year gaps in between so my knowledge fades over time lol
well, not to butt in but (butting in) a pal of mine arranged the travel for the Canadian women's (gold medal) curling team in the '98 Olympics. He took me to a local curling club where I proceeded to totally fail...except for having fun. I liked it, I totally lack any talent for it but, I liked it.
