Both adaptations have the same problem where they can’t just have the happy ending of Charlie being good and getting the factory. They both need a crisis at the end
At least the Gene Wilder one is just a final test of Charlie’s goodness. The Johnny Depp one has the whole “no your family can’t come along bc of my tragic backstory that now requires the movie to be extended ridiculously so we can resolve it”
