But I'd like to see the reasoning behind why the dirt path it's not considered man made... these types of straight paths with equal and symmetrical clearing on both side are made by man's regular use. I'm wondering if it thinks that there was a herd of elephants going from one place to another... but animals typically don't go in exactly straight lines.

No. That leads to analysis paralysis.
You and I are both well familiar with analysis paralysis. That's why we are very aware of it and how to avoid it. It's only the paralysis when you don't take action. But if we dont fully understand the entire scope of environment for which we are in, the things that we need to create to improve the situation might not be correct. Eventually, we run out of time, resources, or existing solutions and have to make a decision to move on.
