New pcb. Manufacturer doesn't make it anymore. Customer (a company) wants something similar (form fit function).

Why don’t they just buy new machines and stuff instead of throwing parts at something outdated?

Kinda... not making improvements. Basically need to redesign the pcb to accept new microchips because they don't make the old chips anymore. And the new chips will have new code.
