Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.
Dolly was more than just a country singer. Over a career spanning more than six decades, she became one of the most recognizable figures in American music and culture. Songs like Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You became classics, while her songwriting influenced generations of artists far beyond country music.
Her impact also reached well beyond entertainment. Through her Imagination Library, Dolly helped provide hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world, making literacy and education a major part of her legacy.
Her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, died in 2025.
Whether you grew up listening to her music, knew her from movies and television, or simply knew her as Dolly, she was one of those rare celebrities who seemed to transcend generations.
Rest in peace to a true icon.
