I’ve been thinking and yes I might have ground a few gears in my head lol. I’ve heard the saying “absolute power corrupts absolutely”; so I dug into my memory dada bank so to speak, and I was able to come up with an opinion.
I started playing dungeons and dragons as a kid. Uh oh geek alert!!! Joke, anyway when playing this game I had a certain power and freedom on my choices, abilities, and even make my character pretty much god-like. Also even when you read a good book there is power there; though hidden, but it’s there the details in the words plays pictures in your mind to a world unlike anything before. Authors used this power to create not only a fantasy world thank you Tolkien (for those who do not know he’s the reason why we have dungeons and dragons, the creators were inspired by his books) but a world where truth is there.
I’ll take a quote from V for vendetta, “authors tell a story to reveal the truth, while politicians tell a story to hide the truth.” Not truly verbatim but there’s power everywhere. These ghosters, as I call them if there is a word please let me know, catfishes, and trolls or in my opinion online karens. These people usually have or are going through some shit and feel entitled for their entertainment to put it on others. Some are actually cowards who want that power while others are just dicks. I know I didn’t mention some other stuff but let’s not go down that rabbit hole shall we? Anyways just like games or books the fantasy realm is very powerful, so what happens when you throw the anonymity of the net mixing with the power of online? Well chaos! Just like actual fantasy worlds you have the power to be “rich” when you’re poorer than dirt, a dick that’s 13” when it’s really 3”, or whatever you desire or think you deserve. That’s the power of hiding behind screens and choosing to be nasty.
Apologies for being long but all in all as others before me had said “this is a fantasy world you’re going to have these people,” I’m not the first but this is an opinion that supports the fact of there will be bad people on here. Disclaimer: to those who are hardcore proper English writers out there, I know I’ve not used proper pronouns or whatever and I don’t care. Just making a point. Thanks for reading this hopefully it may, even a dim one, illuminate some facts based on my opinion.
