Why do you give back?

I feel a need and want to help out around my community. You know volunteer and stuff like that. What are some good ways to give back and how are you giving back?

So many...here a just a few simple thoughts...help someone learn to read/write, help with a community trash pickup, volunteer at an animal shelter, soup kitchen, or homeless shelter, start or help with a community garden, help someone with their yardwork, buy someone a cup of Jo, okay I could go on and on...xx
 
I never thought of it as "giving back," but I spend a couple of hours a week reading to a blind student at the community college I attend. It's hard to get Braille textbooks, so I just help him with his reading assignments.
 
For me I'm was sad for too long and I don't want no one to feel sad, pain or suffer. So I"ll do things for them, give em a few bucks, get em something to eat, give em ride, just help and be there for them making em feel better. Doing this I foud joy out of it. It makes me happy. Seen them happy or just making their day lil bit easier. Put a smile on my face. But I still feel that I can and should be doing more.
 
IDK, How can people be rude when your being nice to them, so yesterday I saw someone being messed with on chat,I sent them a positive comment they told me to f*** off,
Today I was going through the post and I saw someone say they were so happy so I left the comment saying I'm happy for you, then her and her friends came at me with negativity, for a moment there I thought I had did something wrong.

Did I? Or am i just over thinking this?

There is ALWAYS someone out there that is in a worse position than myself. Every day is really a blessing and if I can do something small to help 1 person, that can snowball into a greater good.
Life is too short to be bitter and selfish
