One of the last things he talked about was hydrogen enriched water and it seems like the idea is just to increase the pH.

4L is normal for somebody who's young and very active. 8L could be overkill if your activity level, mild climate and sweat level dont dictate such intake.

The most important thing is not to cause an electrolyte imbalance and avoid overloading your kidneys.

I think professional athletes use precision scales to gauge how much water they lose through sweat during training sessions.
