Are there words (of any language) that you find beauty in be it in the way they sound when spoken, the way they look on the page or in their meaning? One of my favourite words is petrichor I love the sound of the word and I love the meaning and the experience of it that I have, in fact it could be my favourite scent as well. "a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather." Please post a word that you love (in any language) and explain why you love it.
The Welsh word cwtch. Although it may not sound beautiful if you've ever received one you'll know it is a wonderful thing. It has no literal English translation although the closest would be cuddle or snuggle. Unfortunately these don't come close to doing it justice! It's like a cuddle but with ten times the love and affection, it's feeling safe from everything hurtful in the world whilst in someones arms, it's full of respect and warmth. Today I've had two,one from my child and one from a work colleague. It's been a great day!
Onism The definition: This is defined as the frustration of being stuck in just one body at any time, unable to experience more than one thing or be in more than one place, knowing that there are a million things you won’t be able to do before you die. I suffer from this.
English is not my native language so I can’t find sometimes all the words interpretations or meanings. But there are many words I like. One of them is snollygoster used to define a dishonest politician. I like how it sounds and all the meanings as a concept.
Verzehren This is a really versatile and funny German word. It can describe the process of eating, but it can also mean that you desire someone so much you almost want to eat them!
Entropy Not so much the thermodynamic definition but the lack of order and predictability and gradual decline into disorder. As much as we all want to be in control of everything around us, there will always be a certain randomness and collapse of that control.
Serenity. Often wished for, perpetually out of reach most of the time in the modern world. Awesome thread though @Calazviel thanks.
