A temporary resolution may be to continuously press the "Log in" button after receiving the initial "Unable to authenticate" message, and you may find that after several attempts, you gain access to chat.

It's been over a day now and by reading the complains I'm not shure If I should wait or just try and open a new account or as a guest...

It’s a site wide outage, so a new member account won’t help. It’ll be temporary (at least I hope), so I’d either recommend just chatting in convos on the forum side or logging in as a guest over there.

There was a hotfix by sysadmin at around 2100 GMT.
Things are expected to be back to normal at this time.
