This was an aussie kids morning program which also had a semi often adults alternative. There was non stop controversy about this character but was so hugely popular with kids and adults alike that it survived all through the nineties because it just went for the soft underbelly of the uptight and made us laugh. It really does epitomise our 'so what' attitude to swearing and other aspects of societal moral fashion. This does include outtakes.

Loved this show growing up. As I've mentioned before, we didn't get a lot of American shows growing up but so glad we got ones like this.
 
I don't know if this one made it down under. The set up: Mary worked at a news program and the station's children show clown died. All day all the other station members were... well, here's a longer version I found that sets it up too:

It sure did and we loved it and her following on from her being in the equally loved The Dick Van Dyke Show. She was gorgeous, smart and hugely popular.

I've mentioned the book elsewhere, but totally failed to eat a magic peach and celebrate this great series. The clip is just a promo for the fully restored release, but it has the song and shows all those characters for whom many of us grew up with. Buddha is still wearing a dress, he's "kinky you know".

So much great fun, just like the book..

Just as I did for the big screen thread so for the small screen thread. Barney Miller was one of the few cop series I ever watched on tv.

Since I mentioned this in my post on Hoffnung in the Top Albums thread, it felt remiss of me to not feature it here. It exemplifies so much of what makes English humour unique and as one who grew up on a steady diet of it, very much who we are now.
 
Well now, in all my own sense of self disaster and trying to deal with changes in life (made worse by the long drawn out nature of effect, consequence and resolution), I forgot to mark this thread's 1st birthday and say a simple thank you to all who have contributed or just enjoyed. It's all about sharing a laugh and a smile, it does us all a world of good.
