This is absolutely amazing! How long did it take for you to make this sculpture? Do you make sculptures with other mediums or do you prefer ice? What types of tools do you use? @Oldgymrat Thank You so much for sharing this!
About 45 min... i use a stihl .024 gas chain saw with a custom 20in bar... a makita 2000 rpm dremel with special burr tips and my set of Junichi Nakamura chisels and saws..

I also carve butter tallow and cheese....

Thanks for asking

I'm guessing it's an older Stihl?
I love the fact that you use a 20in bar! I am blown away by the detail that went into your ice sculpture. Has this been a hobby of yours for a number of years? The fact that it took about 45 minutes to carve this bird (pun intended :D) is just incredible.
You also carve butter tallow and cheese? Where have you been hiding these gems?

Yup... more than 20 years old now but I baby the shit out of her. A standard ice block has an 18 inch side so the extra bar length helps things along... ( you ladies can appreciate that)...

I was always good at art and am blessed with a good head for three dimensional thinking... i kind of "see" my finished sculpt in side the block.

My grand father carved wood... the chef i apprenticed under carved ice So you could say i learned from both...

Now that i know thetes interest as i carve things i can post them...

Extra length in the bar of a gutted chainsaw makes me very excited! I'm a big fan of an Echo 590T that sounds like a dirt bike when it's cutting. The saw is currently pulling a 24in bar...
cut cut cut yay °¤°.jpg
I'm gonna stop drooling over the chainsaw now, lol!

It will be a pleasant surprise when you post your next carvings.

I think it's pretty awesome that you've taken skills that were learned in one trade and carried them over to another.

Thank you again, @Oldgymrat

I know you and Alexa are tight so i can say this.... talking chainsaw with a babe has got me oddly aroused.....lol

Ive actually used a Husqvarna 3120 XP in the north woods. If that dont get your juices flowing nothing will... has to be a ten or twelve octave jump idle to torqued up...

@CrystalMarker You a fan of Jackyl' s The Lumberjack ??
