Nice and easy idea. Pick 5 albums that need to help you survive on an island till rescue arrives.

If you're feeling clever/creative you could say why. Loads of albums have a meaning for people.

Okay so here's mine;

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits.

Its very much down to the title track of the album, though for me there isn't a bum song on it.

Led Zeppelin - IV

Loads of songs on this album are still amazing, but for many the one that stands out is Stairway to heaven.

American Idiot - Greenday

Although I'd heard of them as a band, this was probably the album that really made me go hunting for the older stuff they did.

The Colour and the Shape - Foo Fighters

Monkeywrench was my introduction to the Foo's and i have been a firm fan of them since then. Even making sure that Fridays on FCN are #FooFightersFriday.

Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi

As a teen this was my growing up album, smashed out loud with other bands like Scorpions, Yes, Vixen and a few others. But its still for me the one just above the rest.

So I'm interested on what others would take..

INXS Kick. Reminds me of good times in Germany in the late 80s

Meatloaf Bat out of Hell . One of my all time favourite albums.

Pink Floyd The Wall. Always been a Floyd fan since I can remember.

Guns N Roses Greatest hits. Currently in the disc player of my car. Paradise City my favourite track.

The Eagles Greatest Hits. Hotel California is easily in my top 5 songs of all time.

Greenday - international super hits
Since I can only take 5 albums. This one has a lot of my fav songs.

INXS. - listen like thieves.
Sounds of my teenage years.

Bastille - Bad blood
Love his voice

Pink - greatest hits so far
Well a girl needs to dance.

and ofcourse ...

Matchbox20- yourself or someone like you.
because this album soothes my soul.

Wow, this is very difficult because there are so many that I enjoy for so many reasons but I'll do my best to pick just 5...
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon, I have to have a Floyd fix and honestly, to me, this album is a masterpiece when it comes to concept albums.
Bob Dylan- The Best of Bob Dylan, So many great songs to choose from for any given mood.
Stevie Ray Vaughn- Greatest Hits, Virtuoso guitar & rocking blues. From his covers of songs like "The Sky is Crying" to his classic "Pride & Joy"
Janis Joplin- Pearl, just because, well, Janis. Nuff said.
T. Rex- The Slider, sometimes I just need escapism and Marc Bolan's weird and wonderful style takes me away from it all in my mind. Metal Guru is one of my favorite tunes ever.
There's about 10 other albums that could easily supplant these but for today, these have to be my choice.

Thanks folks for sharing so far. As you've all said 5 albums makes it so hard to do because there is always more you want.

I'm a huge Floyd fan as well, so it was a case of if I take them who do I leave behind? Same with matchbox 20 @Jinxy knows I'm a big fan of them..

I even thought of cheating and going g for a few of those Truck Stop compilation sets. I'm sure I have the greatest American rock songs and the hits of the 80s both of which are 5+ disks..

Surprised no one else had a go at this. Guess music does have the same appeal as some subjects..

I mainly discovered them as a lot of there cover artwork was done by the amazing artist Rodney Matthews whom has done some amazing versions of one of my favorite book characters Elric.

Liege and Lief - Fairport Convention. The very beginning of English Folk Rock.
In the Region of The Summer Stars - The Enid. Proof that classical and rock are not mutually exclusive.
The Division Bell - Pink Floyd, because it contains "High Hopes"
Marbles - Marillion, because it always takes me to a "Fantastic Place".
Merchants of Light - Big Big Train. A live album to serve as a best of.

Nice choices chap. Have to say I don't know Merchants of Light or Enid so might go digging for them. I've started listening to a few bands based on people's music posts here.

Merchants of Light is the album name, the band is Big Big Train. MoL is a live album, so if you want to start with studio recordings I'd recommend "English Electric". Hope you enjoy anything you track down.

Thanks chap I shall go looking. You never know when you might find your next big thing in something old..

I'm going to cheat a bit and pick one boxed set.
  1. Jimmy Buffet - Boats, Beaches, Bars, and Ballads. Who better to listen to when on an island?
  2. Pink Floyd- The Wall
  3. 311 - Music
  4. Antonio Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
  5. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power. Need some high energy music for motivation.
