I believe there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding Dominance and submission, many due to misinformation or unrealistic portrayals in books and movies. These often create the impression that a submissive, whether male or female, is somehow less than their Dominant partner, or must always agree with them.
A submissive does not equal a person with no opinions, no backbone, or no power. In fact, quite the opposite.
Some experience D/s as a 24/7 way of life, while others see it as an enrichment of their bedroom activities. Neither is inherently more valid than the other.
I believe it takes a great deal of introspection to discover who we truly are. It took me many years to discover aspects of my true self, and it's still an ongoing exploration. Whether we're Dominant, submissive, a bit of both, or neither, I think we'd all benefit from understanding who we are and what makes us tick.
The world seems to be full of wannabes in this spectrum, where being Dominant is confused with being an alpha male, overpowering someone, or simply being domineering.
Those, however, are not the same thing, in my opinion.
True dominance doesn't require diminishing another person, just as true submission doesn't require diminishing oneself.
