Poetry Favorite short poem

This is beautiful.

Yes it is - a lovely love poem to a country that loves even its harshness. Here in England we are lucky - at least here in the soft underbelly of the south - to literally live in a green and pleasant land, and I genuinely do love it for that ancient cultivated softness.

I have travelled a lot, and love many varied places, but I think if one's best loved place is one's own country then one is lucky indeed.

This is lovely ... is a sad poem right ? But its so true some people give and give but never asked anything in return while they bleeding inside ... I know a woman who was like that she pass on from covid she was a true gem and very few have know her struggles still she have give and give always with a smile.
Sorry to hear your friend passed, thank you for sharing about her - the best memorial is to be remembered and talked about. Some people are naturally good people. It is good of you to be concerned about how they are feeling too.

A Sick Rose by William Blake

O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

(I have always liked this one because the literary critics set off to unravel the "symbolism" and concoct all too typical interpretations - why isn't it just considered to be observational with a bit of wonder in the natural course of things? and yeah, the situation patterns out the course of a gillion other ones. That's kind the point, right?)

this was one of the billion poems we read senior year - totally forgot about it til you posted - nice one
Glad it sparked some memories. One of my favorite short poems. So rich in imagery especially considering how few words there are.
