Could the friend list in an open chat window update for when you follow someone via the forums?

No. Reload and it'll eventually update. May have to try a few times.
See the problem with reloading is I lose my chats

Write down the usernames you're chatting with.
Go, "brb, m8."
Reload.
Find the username.
PM them.
Alternatively, you can click on their username in chat snd select "Add Friend."

Doesn't work on guests
The feature only works with registered users as guests can always change their name
