They definitely are smarter. A horse can get pushed and ride till he dies from exaustion, a mule (cross between a donkey and a horse) knows better and will stop to save himself. And good morning Wendy...lol P.S I happen to own horses and donkey's so I lnow first hand how they are, cute as hell also..
