Hello all ,
First off I mean no disrespect and if my question here touches a nerve or is irksome...that is not my intent.

I would like to know the " Personal Pronoun Protocol *" , in regards to L.G.B.T. ( He , She ,etc... )
I guess one could answer that it all depends on the person in question....
But there are times where a pro noun is useful and I have no wish to offend anyone.

Mostly I like to use a person's name...but as I said a pro noun can be more useful.
Again I mean no disrespect...in fact , that is the reason I am asking , so I do not make a mistake out of my ignorance.

* Made up term , as I am in new waters here and not really sure of how else to classify my question.

Sometimes Q is added for "Questioning own sexuality." Are you asking how one categorizes themselves from all those options? It seems clear.

Am I missing something?

No not really missing anything...Just a poorly worded question of mine.

I have not had much contact with anyone who is L.G.B.T and since I am here on a chat site and might talk with someone who is ....I simply do not want to offend anyone with a misused word or phrase...

Again I meant no offense with my question....maybe a MOD can delete my question if it appears to be harmful or disrespectful...
 
"LGBT/Q" is just an "alternative sexuality," or even lifestyle community as a whole. No one can be LGBT/Q, but everyone can be part of LGBT/Q. It's up to the individual how they define themselves in that spectrum.

Your question is perfectly fine.

Your answers help a lot...as I said I have no wish to offend anyone , come across as an ass or be disrespectful.
Chatting here is a new world for me ...and I would like to be as much of a positive member here as I can....
 
As far as pronouns go, I believe your question would only pertain to the trans segment of the community, and in that instance, it would depend on which sex they switch to. A man who crosses over to a woman, for instance, would prefer to be referred to as a she, or her.
 
As a lezzer I DGAF what you call me, nor am I remotely interested in what labels other people attach to themselves or their sexuality, or lack thereof.

I don't usually introduce myself by saying "Hello I identify as a lesbian", I tend to say "Hi, I'm Karen, pleased to meet you".

And yes that is my name. Pleased to meet you :)

Edit: unless approached in a sexual manner by a male here.

Well said. I don't see any reason why we can't just chat with each other as people, regardless of our sexuality or whatever else. And if a woman says she is a lesbian, then we as men should just respect that and not be trying to hit on her.
As for the pronouns, I think Kelsey hit the nail on the head, it is still a he or a she regardless of sexuality but someone transitioning usually prefers to be addressed as what they believe they are inside. Therefore, a man transitioning to a woman prefers to be referred to as a she. But it probably doesn't ever hurt to just ask politely. Just my two cents here, mind you.

Much meaning can be lost or misunderstood with just having to rely on words via "electric communication " .
