Ketogenic diet seems to be all the rage lately, but is it sustainable or even good for us?

"This is what the keto diet does to your body | Professor Christopher Gardner"

"Keto has been promoted as a magic bullet for weight loss by its supporters and slammed as dangerous by its opponents. It's no surprise - completely removing almost all carbohydrates is not what most people consider ‘a balanced diet’. With carbs off the table, Keto diets involve a dramatically increased fat intake. At the same time, drastically reducing carbs means starving our gut microbes of the fiber that feeds them. Nonetheless, doctors prescribe keto diets to treat people with severe diabetes and see dramatic improvements, and many healthy people swear by keto for weight loss. On top of this, removing carbohydrates prevents blood sugar spikes and crashes linked to inflammation and disease. In today’s episode, Jonathan speaks to a leading nutritional researcher to understand whether or not keto diets are a crazy fad: Christopher Gardner is a professor at Stanford University and a member of ZOE’s scientific advisory board who’s produced a clinical trial of keto diets, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition."

What You Know About the KETO DIET Is WRONG! This Is What NEW STUDIES Are Showing | Dr. Steven Gundry

Interesting topic, better be properly informed before trying! I have also some good videos to share for people who are interested:

Ive decided that it's for people who have too much time on their hands.

Is this guy a snake oil charlatan or is this legit?

For example, Italians love pasta and raw fish is popular in Japan, yet they are among people with longest life expectancies: https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/life-expectancy/

Also, organic produce farmers use harsher organic chemical pesticides and herbicides (and at higher volumes) because they're less effective than synthetic ones. Since is spinach bad? Aside from well-known, common sense dietary practices, I have a hard time taking him seriously.

So, after listening to discussions and reading research results, I think the ketogenic diet long-term is a huge red flag.

Some akeaways:

Most people don't don't understand and misinterpret the diet, nor are able to sustain ketosis.

Reduces nutrient intake unless heavily supplemented.

Promotes heart/coronary disease, because of saturated fat and cholesterol overload.

Promotes Alzheimer's.

Promotes Diabetes II.

Ruins gut biome and likely damages intestinal wall lining, because fiber is removed, as well as causes constipation.

Terrible for women or child-bearing ages.

Inferior to ketogenic plant-based diet in terms of avoiding bad side effects, but plant-based ketogenic diet offers even less essential nutrients.
