@Peony8317 Well....It's a fascinating discussion point. Maybe the band/song was already getting some traction (via college radio perhaps) in the States which was why it got picked up for the film. I was going through my loving all English indie music period and actually had the bands first 2 albums (including this one) before the film came along. But they were very underground here in Oz. You would hope such a great song would have found a way without the film but I'm not so sure. The band themselves outside this song remain pretty obscure. Biggest track on Spotify after I Melt With You is Someone's Calling with just over a million streams. Whereas I Melt With You over various versions has, hmmmm, 120 million! What a song though and works so well in the film. And the rest of the soundtrack to Valley Girl is pretty damn good too!

Yeah the soundtrack is great. I love the movie, always have since I was a teenager.
I am glad the movie gave the song life
