I'll probably post some fragments from time to time - all my own:

-- Inspired by Frostpunk --

The things we left behind, that made us who we are, as the cold came for us and turned our flesh to gangrene. We fought, yes - for preservation of life and the way of it - but in the end our hand was forced. We tried to preserve what few fragments were not stolen by the frost but even those did not suffice. So we adapted, we attempted to operate as soldiers of fortune in the cold. But we failed. Many times we failed. All gave some, some gave all.

The cold wrapped its fingers around our necks and squeezed. Our visions blackened and our breath caught in our throats. The air burned as we choked it down, turning our lungs to ice. We dry-drowned in cold.

-- Medical Musings --

Start thinking about the uniqueness of human existence - that no other combination of factors or influences or genes or events or whatever could produce the person in front of you. I don't know what paths my patients have traveled. I don't know their life story to the point at which they come to me. What I do know is that somewhere along the way, by some quirk of luck or fate or chaos theory or the butterfly effect, assign whatever terms you want to it, they are now in front of me. Sick. Debilitated. A ghost of themselves.

And somehow through my own life path with all its spirals and circles I am now in possibly the most intimate and violating relationship with them. Their soul - their fears, desires, hopes, dreams, family, life itself is now interacting with mine. Changing them I am and changing me they are. And I am guiding a ship through a storm.
