Thoughts Neighborhood Q&A

@Oldgymrat if baseball never existed, do you think you would be the same person you are today?
@CantBeTamed I'm not sure if I'd be different but I'd be less fulfilled.

I was mentored by some very very good coaches who were also good men. They never spared the tough love, never wavered in there support, never ever let me feel sorry for myself or defeated even through my parents divorce, two knee ops and rehab and general teenage boy growing pains. I caught, it taught me to remember things, it taught me to accept the responsibility of calling pitches
Yet watch the glory go to the pitchers ( have you ever seen them.carry the catcher after a no hitter? No... but who's the first one to the mound tacking him/her. ? You learn to celebrate the successes of others.

Baseball does teach about life in unique ways.... to be good, truely good takes sacrifice, takes selfless ness takes toughness. You play hurt because 8 other guys need you.

You work at it while others do fun stuff. You give up weekends.. you give up time with friends you study late because you have 2 a days... things I feel make me a better man today. The idea that you sacrifice for a goal. Family. Career.

It builds in you a sense of purpose within a group. How to be a good team mate. How to work with others. Hitting 317 that year, in the last game of the season I was asked to bunt a runner over to third in the ninth inning of a tied game. I laid down a greaser up the third base line... the run scored on the next fly ball, we win, I finished 2 points out of the batting title. I still think about it but am proud I did my job for the team.

In no other sport does it teach you how to fail. A batter hitting .333 lifetime makes it into the hall of fame, but that means he has failed 2/3's of the time. A pitcher throws the perfect pitch to the perfect location yet it meets the perfect swing and it leaves the yard.

But. Being a catcher yourself you know all this.... you know how it gets in you and stays....

I have coached now for nearly 20 years. I take pride in saying 17 players of mine have played in college..... at work my biggest source of pride is that 31of my previous emoyees are now chefs on their own....

I cant say that baseball changed who I would have become.... but im proud of the man it helped make me....

Sorry for the long read... ill buy you a beer if you made it to the end

@Slopps if you had to choose a new fcn nickname for yourself, what would it be?
I have no reason to, but if I had to? Probably something like HornyBigDick69. I don't see how this could go wrong...

@Kbunny could you please stop hitting on the girls here? There is already enough competition between the men mmkay? :D

@LillyK99 what's the longest distance you ever run at once?

@Oldgymrat would you rather have a 6 feet long left arm or 12 ducks following you always and wherever you go? Why?

@FireflyEyes how did you choose your nick / what is the meaning behind it?

@TBig88M favorite beer and why?

@PheonixxxMonroe have you ever read/heard a poem or song text that made you cry?

@UnsaintedCali what is the one thing you have done or created that you're most proud of?
Uhm, I got out of bed this morning.

Honestly though, there are a couple I guess. The first painting I ever sold was to my 6th grade teacher's mom. Watercolor replica of Starry Night.

The other is a painting I have on my wall that got me high praise amongst the graduate student art majors. When you see them gathered in front of work, they are tearing it apart. I walk in and see them gathered and I ask my friend "who are they destroying?" She said, "Yours." I started getting upset because they were always so pompous with their noses in the air. Little did I know they were praising it, as I was told by our instructor in class right after. Tied first place and split the $500 with another classmate.

That's a great story! I knew you'd have one ❤

All of this... I feel it.

@nessabbyxo everyone irl will die unless you kill 3 of your fcn friends as a sacrifice. Do you do it? If so, who?
lmao oh lord make it all extreme hahaha

hmmm well I think I would go with not doing it and just letting everyone get the same thing so no one has to be a sacrifice. Also being Christian I would say we will all just party in heaven.
