There are a bunch of anecdotes like where the punch lines were cut off to invert the meaning of the expression.
“Jack of all trades, master of none” … continues “still better than a master of on”
“Blood is thicker than water” means family first, but the original anecdote was “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the waters of the womb” which is a complete inversion from family first to, the bonds you choose with intent should carry more weight.
