I'm going to be a party-pooper!!
Don't read unless you want your HNY fun squashed :D

What makes today different from yesterday except for the digits of the year? Nothing. We've collectively decided that January 1st is a reboot day: clear that cache, delete your cookies, remove the malware, delete that history (unless you're incognito), and restart. Life doesn't work that way though, does it?

That one second difference from the 31st Dec to the 1st Jan doesn't erase what you've said or done, what you haven't said or haven't done. That one second difference isn't what makes your "resolutions" -- that you can make on any day of the year -- more viable, more powerful. Having overblown expectations that some kind of momentous magic will take place in the next few weeks just because you wish for it to be so, leads to disappointment.

Let go of expectations and then go for what you want. Else, it's just a whole load of self-bullshitery.

I agree thats why I grow up cleaning the house on new years day because it was just another day. But atlease I now have another 365 (correction 364) days to make some more mistakes and learn from them and another 364 days to clean my house lol

But but but ..... I did make 1 change ...... and silence is golden

Exactly. Go for what you want.

I have always been this way. Never made any fuss about NYE tbh. It's just a date. No new resolutions unless they're lifestyle changes for a better me.

I get so irritated when people are overly critical of others, especially when I know there's really fucked up things going on in their life but they act like they're better than others. We all go through difficult times and most of us don't openly talk about it. But why put down others in the process?

Yes its arbitrary. But... its an arbitrary evening where so many people have decided to have a night. To party. Not centered around a holy day. Just an arbitrary day where everyone says fuck it. Lets party tonight. As we age those times to gather and celebrate and dance and partake can get less and less. So i don't disparage a day when I know i can reach out to people and we will likely be sharing a good time whether together or apart.

I mean... it makes it better than a regular day right?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the last few weeks I’ve be watching and listening to how my daughter interacts on Instagram and SnapChat and how cruel teens are to each other online. It seriously concerns me and how they will go up, what they think is okay to do, and to down right provoke each other online.
Makes me very sad.

I agree Jolly. We know the internet is a great place for "Bravery" anyway, has been for a while. But I find the diminishing amount of basic human decency to be very disturbing. Honestly, while it IS sad to see this in kids (of course) it is also disturbing how prominent it is with adults.
