Or get a job creating AI and managing AI models. 
Hardware to create AI models isn’t worth it for home use IMO. It’s too fast moving of a field and your hardware is out of date faster than driving a car off the lot. Instead, invest in cloud services and only buy older tech for sandboxing locally. Use the big hardware in the cloud when you actually need it, which isn’t really all that often.

Unfortunately for me, I'm in the wrong sector and switching without a fool-proof-hit-the-ground-running-shortcut while maintaining same level of income doesn't seem feasible. A more realistic approach is to get into a hobbyist lane and go from there. There's an immense amount of younger, brighter, more experienced competition as well. #fmlOr get a job creating AI and managing AI models.

Good points. I don’t know what background you have or the sector you’re in, but you seem like someone who can pick stuff up quick. There are loads of free online courses you can evaluate to pick up skills. Better yet, there are good online certificate programs (not free) that can get you an advancement. I can recommended a few. Knowing how to create and use AI is one thing, but domain knowledge of your sector is more important. A brilliant young AI engineer can’t hold a candle to a seasoned domain expert that has decent AI skills. I could talk forever about this stuff, so I’ll put a sock in it. Shoot me a message if want me to ramble on more.
Sometimes the world surprises me. In good ways and bad. We all hurt in our own way. Process in our own way. Our ways may not align. But empathy and kindness go a long way.
