I usually just work out my monthly expenditure, like I budget for food, then I know my monthly outgoings like bills and that.

You have pets now? Yeah they aren't cheap, and like you say you never know what could happen. Even if you put away $50 a month or whatever.

I tend to see what I have left over after a month and just stick that into my savings account
