"Free range" is a marketing scam. They're still indoors, in a tight space, just not literally packed into grated cages.
They only way to get a legit, free range chicken, is to go to a local farmer where you see the chickens free ranging. Economics of 300,000,000 people don't allow for that on such a large scale. They process up to a 2,000,000 chickens per week in that complex.
