They're supposed to be better tomorrow. They've been this far south before, but it's always been cloudy and I've never gotten to see them until now

strong geomagnetic storms push the aurora further south than usual, and the red color is created by excited oxygen atoms reacting at very high altitudes (above 150 miles). At these high altitudes, the solar particles have less energy but cause a red glow that can be seen from lower latitudes like Illinois during intense solar activity. You can thank Google lol
