Butt plugs are one way of priming your ass in preparation...so that you wont be too surprised the first time and accidentally clench too much.
But my partner never really needed it because she was the one who ordered me to take her ass 'now' the first time around...so I guess she was at least already mentally ready and hence relaxed enough I suppose. Cant overstress lube.
 
Not especially @MannyMan, the main thing to consider here is the rectum does NOT provide its own lubrication as does the mouth or vagina. A water based lube is essential in this case. If it's your first time, please poo (or try at least) and shower. If you place a finger directly on the anus, the sphincter will clench on its own. I suggest massaging it until the sphincter looses a bit then try to relax. Best position for this is on your side, one knee to your chin and the other knee bent just so it's comfortable. Go slow and tell your partner what to do. Alcohol isn't generally recommended because you may bleed and not know it. I absolutely recommend condoms or gloves as there are loads of bacteria in the anus. Some of it can be harmful to another person, but it shouldn't scare you. Hence the rubber gloves/condoms. Just make sure that you are properly lubricated and RELAXED!!! It will be uncomfortable and somewhat painful the first time he slides in but once he begans stroking, it feels better as long as he starts slow and steady.
