Video Gaming Replaying Dying Light

KingOfDiamonds

Resident
FCN Regular
Phenomenal fucking game. Completed my second play through on Hard mode, now doing the DLC.

The buggy is fun when plowing through zombies, but the open countryside isn't as fun as doing parkour in the city and it kinda changes the entire vibe of the game.

I remember being so excited for Dying Light 1, but of course Germany banned it not long after the official release... so I'm jealous, I must admit

Hmmm well, it is very gorey, but... you don't see full on organs and intestines or anything like that. And the animation is not super realistic. It's slightly cartoony.

So wait... is Mortal Kombat banned In Germany?
Or the film OverLord? It was about German zombies?
Is there like a weird thing in Germany against all graphic media or just Dying Light?
I remember something with Turok for Nintendo 64. It was deemed too violent, so they changed the human enemies to robots. Not sure if that was Germany.

Nope, Mortal Kombat isn't banned in Germany, but I'm not sure about OverLord to be honest. Couldn't find anything in particular about it.

Besides Dying Light, I can't think of any other game right now that was banned because it was too violent, but there were some aspects of games being censored, like Wolfenstein due to the swastikas etc. It really doesn't make sense to me since the government doesn't have a real system behind it. Why are some games and even albums banned, but you can watch all Saw movies which are just pure gore at this point and not horror?

Weird.

Well, Dying Light is awesome because it is first person view and you're doing parkour in a fictional middle-eastern city.

The Zombies are too strong at first and you have no weapons so you have to avoid them and stick to the rooftops. There are traps and spikes set up all over the city, so you can push them onto spikes or electrocute them when they are standing in water with electrical wires in it.

The use of music is perfect and sometimes there is no music and all you hear are screams in the distance.

There is a night and day system where 1 minute is an hour and after 14 or so minutes, NIGHT TIME and the zombies are scarier and stronger! So you wanna get to safe houses before dark. You can later craft weapons and build your character to eventually become a zombie killing machine.

You can even cover yourself in zombie blood to use as camouflage like in Walking Dead!!

There's fast running, psycho zombies and the slow zombies and there is even a mural dedicated to George A. Romero graffitied in the game.

A must for any zombie fan!

I'm so close to actually give it a shot... is the story any good and is there actually stuff to do? Most apocalyptic/zombie games mostly rely on the atmosphere and barely fill the world with anything to do (other than killing zombies)

Yes. The story is very well done. Your character has a great arc and is barely even a "hero" in the beginning.
He is dropped in the quarantine zone as an agent for the government and only pretends to be aligned with the good guys to figure out who and where a rogue agent went with the cure.
When he finds the rogue agent, to get in good with him, your character starts doing errands for him. Extortion and passing on threats.

There are things to do, mostly centered around killing zombies, yes, but as the character unlocks more abilities it is a lot of fun.

There is a trap that is a car rigged for an electrical explosion. When you activate it, the car alarm goes off and the zombies are attracted to sound. They go to it and BLIZAPP!! electric blast sending them cripsy and flying.
The car stays intact, so you can run up to the car and reconnect the battery and do it again.

There are time trails you can do, racing over rooftops, challenges of how many zombies you can kill a specific way in a set time.

There are civilians you can save from militia or zombie attacks.

The government drops supplies in the zone and when they come, you can get to it before the militia does.

There's side mission and some "farming" of items to craft other items.

There are zombie nests that are advised that you go at night. During the day, the scariest zombies are in the nest, at night they go out so the nest is safer to destroy.

Highly recommended game for a zombie fan.

Part 2, supposedly, isn't as good. They added a weird game mechanic where you gotta keep injecting a cure and the use of sound design and ambience are not the same.

Well... seems like I won't get any of that fun unless I buy a copy somewhere... and since Dying Light 2 got a bit of hate since it let people down, I don't think that I'll buy that one
