One accumulates credits for time spent in chat. One also gets bonus credits in the forum based on post counts, likes, followers.. etc. You can click on the 'transactions' tab (Top right on the forum page) to see why you received the credits.
FCN used to have the ability to 'gift' other users, 'drinks', jewellery, etc' but we lost the facility at the upgrade. Admin says that facility is on the drawing board to be re-instated here.
So save up your coins because I like presents.
