I love this time of year in the garden - so much promise, and yet the weather still so changeable - fierce cold winds, hail even, then warm and sunny - it is a challenge to decide what to plant out and when, and nice to anticipate how it might turn out as spring arrives, then turns slowly into summer.

The university once introduced eco friendly coffee cups that actually biodegraded with coffee in while you watched. It was really funny with people who didn't know.

Seeds do.

I have to be careful with seeds, because if I keep them too damp the seeds can rot and later the seedings can suffer from damping off. It depends on the seed, but also seems to vary from year to year. I have a friend who always seems to know exactly how to keep seedlings healthy, but at the moment I have to cope on my own.

Wow aren't you all so very productive! I'm still pulling weeds and fighting back hedges.

I slaughtered our hedge a couple of months ago before the birds nested: and the weeds haven't been so bad in this cold weather. But I feel it is all about to become endless drudgery as soon as it warms up.
