Thoughts on the the the animated series? Clone wars and rebels?

saw the original trilogy like everyone else of a certain age and 1977 was like a spiritual event LOL . I actually got to read scripts of what was originally written in 1973-1975 to be episodes I II III and VII VIII IX in 1988. I remember going to a star wars exhibit in 1997 at the Smithsonian while they were filming the prequal trilogy and being so stoked. And then - i was like WTF happened when the prequal trilogy came out, partially due to the fact they were not like the originally conceived scripts/story line (your first guess is your best guess?). I was even more dismayed when the Disney trilogy was released (uh, story continuity, please?). Haven't been brave enough to see the Disney The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fetta, Obi-Wan, Andor, etc. etc. etc. Rogue One was cute in it's spirit... but rather depressing in that all the characters died (but that was also what made it awesome -but then i read it wasn't like it was originally envisioned and the movie was essentially re-cut/edited at the last minute). Pretty much all the "tinkering" of the classic films i fell in love with has left me cold, and I pretty much have hated the latest incarnations i've seen. LOL i feel like my childhood was robbed somehow. anyway, it's nice to see there is so much interest in star wars.

The series are actually all very good because they're stand alone. The last trilogy was pointless and just a mess in regards to directors and different visions. It needn't have happened but Disney made a fuck tonne from then so who cares if people's childhoods get shat on, lol. The only thing the last trilogy was good for was making the prequels look better. Though the acting in episodes I-III was terrible and the overuse of CGI was unnecessary, what stood out and was made even better was the story being told. They might have changed alot since whatever scripts you read all those years ago but look how much George fucked with the original trilogy in just a few years once CGI was up to speed with what he envisioned. Thing is, it wasn't, and the added scenes in IV-VI added little extra, especially the scene in Jabba's palace -_-
Rogue One, imo is the best thing Disney has put out since they bought it all. We all knew how it would end but the story being told bridges a big gap, actually feels like a proper Star Wars movie and actually offers an explanation for the fault in the Death Star. Kinda thought that was a nice touch tbh.
I'd recommend watching the series and see if they do anything for you. There's so much more to Star wars than the Skywalker saga and the less they fuck with it and delve deeper elsewhere, the more respect Disney might actually gain back for doing so.

See? when i saw they were digitally recreating return of the jedi Luke for The Mandalorian i was bemused. When i heard CH was back as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan, I was intrigued. i guess for me the newly minted "skywalker saga" is the only star wars for me. but having been a RPG fan from decades back, it is nice to stretch the edges of the mythos... CGI does not a good movie make; there was something down right awesome with the first Star Wars. the prequal was just... too busy. they would have been better served putting the cut scenes in the movie and leaving some of the CGI-fest out of it. As far as Disney goes, Walt must be spinning in his grave... er... cryogenic chamber... assuming Mike didn't pull the plug on 'im.
