Will posting a link in a private message get me banned?

I had private messaged someone & i told them i was going to send them a video,
I sent them an Imgur link & i got a notification saying that i could get banned if i spam a link again.

i am wondering if link posting in private messages is banned, & if so, is there some how i can send someone a MOV file or MP4 through the website.
