Tuesdays are traditionally the day when new titles (as well as other treasures, I know... but that's another thread) are released.

What are you excited to see on the shelves of your local bookstore today?

For me, today:

I've been counting down the weeks for this translation to be released. Another set of unsettling, spare short stories by the masterful Samanta Schweblin, whose Fever Dream (a one-sitting read), still gives me goosebumps to remember, and is the reason why I learned enough Spanish so that I could read it in the original.

Learning a language (in any amount) so as to read a novel (or anything really) in the original language is impressive, big well done. I've been reading from the Penguin Classics Library exclusively for several decades, chosen due to the quality of their translations and my baulking at the whole idea of learning any amount of Ancient Greek, Latin, French, German, Danish...
I'll have to have a look at their new releases and see what has or is due to be released.

Concerning the Spiritual in Art - Wassily Kandinsky



The treatise published by the great artist himself on freeing oneself of the then constraints of form and expression. A new translation from the impeccable source of Penguin Classics. It was published a few months ago but for those lovers of him and other artists of his time it needed an honourable mention here.

During my weekly trip to the local bookstore I was shocked and thrilled to see that Thomas Pynchon has a new book. But that was not the reason for this particular trip.

The real reason was to purchase this:

"The ultimate guide to the art and science of stick collecting" from the folks behind Stick Nation, a movement that I had, until this morning, been completely unaware of.

It truly must be one of the oddest things about us humans. I don't know what it is about them that we/I just find so fascinating about them, but now I know a good place to find out. Driftwood is especially amazing.
