Most Disturbing Film?

I'm surprised no one mentioned Requiem for a Dream. It's well known and (for me at leat) was far more disturbing than any horror movie I've seen. But it's also true that I'm too afraid to watch A Serbian Film for years now :eek:
Well... at least Requiem was the movie I was the most disturbed about until I saw Utøya: July 22 a few months ago... and oh God, did it leave me distressed for DAYS. Can't recommend it to anyone, not because it's not great, but because you might need a psychologist after. I know I do.
 
I actually have no idea lol. That's a hard thing to achieve with me because I've had to desensitize myself to the kind of material in those movies. I've seen the ones people have mentioned and didn't have trouble watching them. There are maybe two that could qualify. Only the first time I saw Hostel because I walked into that theater blind, and walked out feeling a bit shaken up for a while. The trailers were vague and the internet wasn't quite as broad in 2006 lol. My main reason for picking it was because Jay Hernandez is hot :rolleyes:. I watched the more graphic director's cut four or five years later and it was smooth sailing. Then there's An American Crime, which is based on a true and very gruesome story with an infuriating outcome. Watched it once and that was enough.

I do have an "uncertain" category. There are two scenes in the movie Irreversible that didn't exactly disturb me, but the brutality in them made me feel kind of dizzy. There's also a movie called Begotten, but I think uncomfortable is a more accurate way to describe the beginning of it. Nymphomaniac fucked me up a little bit, but that had more to do with timing than content.

Baby rape and involuntary incest kinda hit me lol. The other ones I don't really care I'm not easily shocked like to poke around a bit and find something shocking. Watched it when I first started looking for crazy shit maybe wouldn't have the same effect now.

It was disgusting lol. But those were also the two most common details I had heard before watching it. If I went into it completely blind like I did with Hostel, it might be a whole different story lol.

Yeah I understand I went in Serbian film blind and watched it alone watched hostel at the cinema with loads of people around it feels safer and less paranoid lol.
Ok funny story about a friend of mine and hostel. We went on holidays together me and two friends . We went to the Netherlands. Landed in Amsterdam and hadn't booked a hotel. We started walking through Amsterdam and walked into a tourist memorabilia place.
The guy that worked there heard us speaking greek and came over. He was a greek niceguy working there. We asked about hotels he tells us there is a hotel information desk just down the road we thank him and move on.
We go to the desk and ask about a hotel and the guy says he has a room he rents upstairs and it was empty. We checked in and went to get stoned :p
When we got back stoned out of our head one of my friends started freaking out that it was too easy getting the room and thought we were gonna be abducted for some kind of torture like the movie. I spotted a hole in the ceiling and told him they were probably watching us through there he was looking at that hole for two hours while we were watching Dutch MTV reality shows not understanding anything lol. I had to sleep next to him because he was too scared to sleep lol

That movie is the reason why I never have and never will stay in a hostel LOL
 
Definitely agree with comment about Requiem for a Dream it's so rooted in reality and that is what it makes it feel so disturbing and grim. For me I always thought Todd Solondz's film Happiness was as disturbing as you can get, holding up a mirror to society in a way that really makes you uneasy, exploring the darkest of subject matter.
