Apollo 8 Liftoff, December 21, 1968.
Apollo 8 was the second manned spaceflight mission in the NASA's Apollo space program, the mission was launched on December 21, 1968, and became the first manned spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit, reach the Moon, orbit it, and safely return.
"We changed our plans on Apollo 8," said Captain, USN, James Arthur Lovell Jr. "They changed the mission from an Earth orbital type to a flight to the Moon. And it was a bold move. It had some risky aspects to it. But it was a time when we made bold moves".
