Is your chat flashing, particularly while scrolling, or scrolling wildly? We would like some particular information from you about it so that we can fix the problem for as many users as possible.

    What we need:
    • Your device: Are you using a desktop, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, or game console? Which one, and what make and model?
    • Your operating system: If you are using Windows, Mac OS, Linux, or an Android device capable of upgrading its pre-installed software version, what version are you using?
    • For desktop and laptop users: What graphics card or chipset are you using?
    • What web browser (Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc) are you using?
Meanwhile, here are some steps for desktop and laptop users that may help to resolve your problem or even improve performance in general:
    • Upgrade your graphics driver. See https://www.howtogeek.com/135976/how-to-update-your-graphics-drivers-for-maximum-gaming-performance/
    • Make sure you are using a supported operating system version. For example, Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and hasn't been for years; no one on the Internet should still be using it. Certain versions of Linux distributions may no longer be receiving updates from their repositories, and you may need to perform a distribution upgrade.
    • Make sure your web browser is the latest available version.
    • If all else fails, you can disable GPU acceleration in chat, under Menu > Options > Appearance. Please reserve this as a final option, as doing so unnecessarily will make your chat experience worse, and we are still working on making graphics acceleration in chat compatible with more devices. If you disable GPU acceleration now, please try turning it back on again in the future as we update the chat software. To be notified of updates to the chat software, watch this thread: https://www.freechatnow.com/forum/threads/chat-changelog.353/ -- use the "watch thread" link to the top-right of the first post.
A further explanation of the problem:
Some years ago, web browsers started to support GPU acceleration. This refers to using your dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to accelerate display of web content. This allowed richer content to be displayed on web pages without slowing the system down. However, not all GPUs are created equal. Some are more powerful than others. Some are not capable of doing much complex rendering at all. Our chat does not require powerful computing/graphics hardware, but many cheap onboard/integrated graphics solutions may render things differently than they should, according to industry standards. The flashing/scrolling issue is not a matter of graphics power, but of driver support for functions we are using. We cannot guarantee that any particular hardware vendor will support certain functions even in their latest driver release, particularly if the hardware has not received updated drivers recently, though it is most often best to install the newest driver version for more reasons than just making chat run better.

Again, we are working on fixing the rendering problems, and have identified several factors and been able to reproduce the problems on some of our own hardware. Please reserve disabling GPU acceleration as your last option, and if you do so, watch the change log thread (https://www.freechatnow.com/forum/threads/chat-changelog.353/) for updates relevant to the problem.
