Common Issues

Cannot get past captcha and login to chat rooms.

Unable to upload images into the chat room.

Both of the above issues have been tied to the Chrome web browser only. We do not know the cause or why this is happening on several devices (phones, desktop, laptops). We recommend updating to the latest version of Chrome and if the problem persists, use a different browser.

Why was I banned?

Chatters are regularly banned from the service for violating our rules. These bans are accurate and affect only the offenders in question in the vast majority of cases.

Likely reasons for your ban:

  • You stated, even jokingly, that you were under the age of 18.
  • You expressed an interest in underage individuals.
  • You posted content that a moderator suspected depicted underage individuals -- including fictional subjects.
  • You mass-messaged or solicited for immediate off-site contact in public.
  • You solicited to buy or sell services.

But I didn't do that!

Users on our service are identified by their IP addresses. This is currently the only way the workings of the Internet provide to discipline or restrict any individual found guilty of misusing our service. However, because of the way the Internet works, an IP address may belong to several different individual users of a given Internet Service Provider (ISP) over a span of time, depending on their ISP's policies. Therefore, it is possible, but exceedingly rare, for IP address bans against users connecting via mobile or residential Internet services to be erroneous.

Additionally, some Internet Service Providers, and sometimes even every ISP within an entire country, control their abusive users very poorly, and as a result, all of the IP addresses in their IP address pools must be pre-emptively banned from our service. This is also the case with VPN and proxy services.

You may appeal bans by posting in our Ban Appeals forum. These posts will be reviewed on a case by case basis. There is no guarantee that we will reverse your ban, but posting here is the best chance you have to see a favorable resolution.

APPEAL YOUR BAN

Chat does not load.

Our chat software requires that your device is running a modern, supported operating system and web browser with HTML5, JavaScript, and WebSockets support.

  • Make sure JavaScript is supported in your device and browser and is enabled.
  • Make sure your web browser and operating system are up to date.
  • Use a supported web browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
  • Disable any addons or extensions that may be interfering with the chat software.
  • Make sure you are not connecting using a VPN, proxy, etc. Connect using residential or mobile Internet connections only.

Forgot login details (username, password, etc)

For security reasons, we cannot furnish account details to anyone. You may be able to reset your password or determine what email address you used to register by visiting the FreeChatNow Forum, clicking "Log in or Sign up", and then using the "Forgot your password?" link. You can then provide your username or email address -- whichever one you know -- to have an email with reset instructions sent to your inbox, if an account is registered at that address or a valid username was provided.

No further assistance with lost usernames or passwords will be provided under any circumstances.

Other Issues

In many cases, issues you may be experiencing may be due to platform-specific or situational conditions that other users have solved on their own. Use the search function before posting a thread of your own, as there is a good chance that someone else already has made a thread about the issue you are having.

Serious Incidents

To report a serious incident, such as the posting of illegal content, misuse of copyrighted materials, specific, credible threats against your person that you believe the offender actually is capable of and intends to carry out, and other serious problems, please begin by using the report functions integrated into our forum and chat software so that the issues can be handled by moderators. If you need to provide more details than either of those options allows, you can use our Chat Incident Report Form.

Using any of the above report methods, it is essential that you be as detailed as possible. Specify the usernames involved (yours at the time of the incident, as well as those of any victims and offenders involved), date, time (including time zone), the chat room or forum board in which the incident took place, as well as any supporting evidence you have, such as screenshots, recordings, or logs. Reports that are not immediately verifiable or do not meet a certain standard of evidence may be ignored. Frivolous or malicious reports may result in action being taken against you.

If you believe a threat has been issued against you, and that the person who issued it has sufficient personally identifiable information (such as your location, place of work, residential address, etc) about you to carry out the threat, do not hesitate to contact your local law enforcement. Provide any supporting evidence you have demonstrating the nature and seriousness of the threats so that they can build a case.
